We collaborate with schools and communities to improve educational outcomes for all youth, cradle to career. We have a deep understanding of the formative role of early education as well as the need to build on the resilience and skills of youth throughout the educational journey. We take a cradle to career view of improving educational outcomes so that our youth develop into thriving members of our community.

Kindergarten Readiness

School readiness is measured across six areas of development and learning including social-emotional, physical, language, cognitive, literacy, and math. We are tracking the percentage of children assessed as Kinder-Ready and partnering with organizations that enroll children in quality early-learning and home visiting programs.

Elementary (3rd Grade)
Early-grade reading proficiency is often an indicator of long-term outcomes for youth. Literacy is a particularly important mastery indicator for English language learners. Literacy is improved when students are in school receiving instructional support. We are focused on the percentage of absenteeism and the percentage of literacy-proficient students. There are 4 working groups that are identifying strategies and deploying local resources to help increase third-grade reading scores. The working groups are Digital Connectivity, Parent and Family Engagement, Partnerships and Resources, Health.

Middle School Math
Middle school is a period of transition and there are many points along the way that students need transitional support. We partner with Community in Schools of Central Washington to provide middle school math intervention and tutoring paired with parent and family engagement to provide community-based math outreach.

High School Graduation
High school is marked by a period of preparation for a post-secondary experience be it a career or college. We are tracking graduation rates and offering community-based engagement for families who would like to learn how to support their students in making a successful transition.

Post-Secondary Enrollment
Post-high school experience for youth includes community colleges, universities, or technical schools. We are tracking post-secondary enrollment and the completion of financial aid. We offer community-based Spanish language family education to help families successfully support their students.

Post-Secondary Completion
We know that simply enrolling in a post-secondary school isn’t enough rather completion depends on their ability to graduate successfully. We will develop our strategies to strengthen retention rates, and remedial course rates, and track the percentage of students who graduate or earn a certificate.

Employment
Career readiness includes the ability to transfer skills acquired in post-secondary settings into earnings. We are tracking unemployment and employment rates while we develop strategies to support economic progress.
